Year 2010...

I had many new experiences in year 2010. This is the first year i study and live abroad. International House, the place i live in Brisbane, has provided me with most of my new and unforgettable experiences together with all my new international friends. Firstly, IH orientation week was great. Played the dirtiest (i threw away my clothes cos’ they were all covered in mud and water) new ‘housies’ game, got a huge bruise on my knees from the sports game though, fire drills that made jump off my bed with the high-pitched alarms, in-house parties with goon (the cheapest alcohol) spilled on the ground and dressing up (i dressed up as a guy for the ‘Switch’ party,LOL!)

This is the first year i went for clubbing. Now i know what people do in clubs. Some really dance, others drink and make out, guys who just go behind girls and start dancing with them etc. Enjoyed the first two times, came back after 3am. However, the visits thereafter were just merely repetitive routines of dance, i didn’t really enjoy it already, so i stop going with my friends.

This year is also the first time i learn how to take care of a drunk friend (like seriously drunk), not once but thrice. Hahahahahha! One fact: People who are drunk always deny that they’re drunk! Some brainless friends still encourage my friend to drink when they know very well that she is already drunk, then i will have to act as the big momma telling them not to let her drink anymore. ERGH! Okay, this is one thing that i know about taking care of a mabuk friend. Force her to drink water like a jar or more (not all at once of course), get ready a big plastic bag cos’ she’ll be puking everything out a while later. I don’t know why but it works =P It’s better that she puke everything out else she would get a bad hangover the next morning.

This year is the first year i had to take care of myself when I’m sick. I have sore throat every now and then but One of the worst was the time when i had fever, flu, headache, all at once a week before my finals. I was really emotionally and physically tired, walao, it was really a bad experience. But luckily i recovered before my first exam. Amituofo!

It’s my first time to experience the four seasons; summer, autumn, winter and spring. I think i like spring with all the pretty flowers and cooling weather( not very cold or hot). Summer is never my fav cos i hate the hot and glaring sunlight. Winter is quite nice but not when you have to sit on the super cold toilet bowls early in the morning or it’s too cold to study at night even with the heater on or you have an 8am class and all you want to do is to be under the warm blanket longer.

This is also the first year I started exercising more regularly. I went to the gym quite often in the first semester(about twice a week) but after i came back from my winter holidays, i didn’t go for a long long time until I started going again in October. Many of my relatives commented that i lose some weight =D Thanks to all the climbing up the stairs to my fourth floor room everyday!

2010 has been a year of me being emo. I cried alot. Hahah! All the homesickness...Whenever i’m stressed, i would feel like crying when i video call with my parents. Problem with studies and friends...luckily i still have a few good Malaysian friends to listen to my problems when I’m down. Not forgetting all the late night chats on msn but i’m always the one who said goodbye first cos i’m sleepy d. Hahahah!

Despite all the sad things that happen this year, I guess there are more of the good ones than the bad. So i would say 2010 has been quite a good year for me. None of the good experiences would be possible without my parents who are willing to spend their hard-earned money for my studies in UQ and my stay in IH. I am really blessed to have them.

2010 is coming to an end in less than 12 hours. This will be my last post of the year!

Dessert @ Three Monkeys Coffee and Tea House

where: 58 Mollison St South Brisbane 4101

It seems this cafe has been here for a long time already. famous for its chai tea(sorry, not a fan of chai) and cakes. went to tried it with 4 of my friends a few months back.

Looks yummy right? each slice is about $6plus. fresh cream that comes with each slice is free too. ambiance?yellow lights but quite stuffy inside though.
It's alright but i think Ritz cake house in Penang, Malaysia beats these any time. out of the four slices of cakes, the coffee one at the top left was the best.

some IH things

The things i do in my room besides studying and sleeping and facebooking...

I take pictures of clouds using my electric blue Sony camera. the formation of clouds i see through my windows. i'm mesmerised by clouds for some unknown reasons..

i take pictures of almost everything. the Uncle Toby's bars, my night-time biscuits, my favourite Nissin instant noodles( u know, in malaysia i always eat either chicken flavour Cintan Mee or the korean noodles) but here, i got a vast selection of flavours to choose from =). i cook instant noodles in my room. how? hahaha, just pour hot water over it, don't even have to use the stove and pot.

I eat in my room as well. these are the packed lunches i had when i have my 12-2pm lectures. egg sandwiches/ham, cheese and mustard/ pesto chicken and mesclun sandwich with one packet of Arnott's biscuits, a banana/apple/orange and a box of Just Juice drink.

i find these candy wrappings special, which was why i bought the whole packet and collected them. but after taking pictures of it, i threw them away d and i'm sick of Minties d, a result of overeating them. hahaha!
try and guess what these pictures are trying to convey.

no internet connection

After moving out from IH college on nov 24th, I've been staying at my sister's apartment( just the next building) till now. no cable or internet connection so i can only online for a limited time using my che's laptop..

I've been eating alot of home cooked food which means I've been cooking, washing the pots and plates, and do grocery shopping ALOT! of course i do all of these together with my sis =) cooking is fun, grocery shopping too but not the washing up part..hahahaha, but this i-don't-really-fancy chore comes along with the fun cooking, so i don't have much choice. i took quite alot of pictures of all the dishes we made, will blog about it when i get back. I've also compiled some food pictures but I'm no longer keen to blog about them for now.

2010 is coming to an end soon..time really flies this semester as compared to the first semester. Got back my semester results and I'm satisfied. hard work paid off! think i put in more effort this sem than the previous semester. wonders whether can i regain this kind of self-discipline again next year after having a long summer break..hmmm, okay that's kiasu-ism..hahahahha! i will get to celebrate CNY next year, woohoooo! remember this year, i came to Aussie on the night of the first day of CNY, damn sad case de. next year i will be in msia till CNY ends!

most of my friends are now back in their home countries for about 2 weeks already..so my only friend now is my che che, hahahha!

daddy and mummy will be coming over for che's graduation this Thursday! then they will go back msia with me on Sunday night =( but I'm looking forward to all the good food and meeting up with my beloved friends!!

That's all for now! *continues watching Wongfu on YouTube and checking out baking recipes*

the passing of a friend

A few days before my last exam for the semester when I was about to go for dinner, I received a text message from mone that my high school friend, lyn si had passed away. The fact didn’t sink in yet when I was having my meal. But as soon as I went back to my room and checked facebook, I saw the personal message written on lyn si’s wall that she had passed away. Tears started to trickle down my checks. I don’t really know the reason I cry too since I was never close to her at all. However I do follow her blog where she writes about her experiences during her hospital stays. It’s just so sudden, I thought her family was collecting donations to undergo a surgery but I guess human cells are just so unpredictable.

The next morning, the first thing that came to my mind when I woke up was lyn si is gone. I kept thinking where has she gone to? how are the parents coping with the loss of their daughter? After my last paper on Thursday, nov 18th, came back and saw that lyn si’s blog was updated. It’s about her funeral; the family had taken pictures of the whole funeral and of her lying peacefully in the coffin. I cried again when I saw this, guess it’s because I am scared of dying and seeing someone of similar age with me going through this just adds to the fear.

But reading about what death is from http://www.ikedaquotes.org/life_death.html that her parents posted up calmed me down.

Her family believes in Buddhism. And I can see through her blog that Lyn Si is learning more about Buddhism in her last two years. And I guess her parents’ faith in Buddhism make the loss of their precious daughter more bearable.

Lyn si has really inspired me through her optimism and never-give-up attitude in her battle with leukemia. She made me feel that all the problems that I face are nothing compared to hers. May you rest in peace, Lyn Si.

one more to go!

hello! just a quick update of my life in brisbane..final exams season right now. 3 down, one more to go.

last week, during the study week, was a bit of an emo week for me cos' i was down with fever, flu, terrible sore throat and cough. went to the health service but wasn't prescribed any medicine, cos to them, we mustn't take antibiotics unnecessarily. so yeah, i listened to their advice and suffered that painful throat for five days (i was hoping it would get better every morning i wake up but it never did) so took the antibiotics i brought from malaysia, after 2 pills, my throat got better. gosh, should have taken it much early instead of swallowing those painkillers ( a total of more than 16! ) been coughing till my ribs hurt a few days ago but it's definitely going away soon.

luckily, i have my sis here, so i went to her place and cook fish porridge for 3 meals. IH food is totally not suitable for a sick person. i think now i can cook a very decent bowl of fish porridge, probably i would rate it 7/10=) a big thank you to all my friends who were there for me last week, i was super down last week.. and a big love to my mum who have been calling me almost every other day last week.

one more paper to go this coming thursday, 'tools of economic analysis", the tools are all maths (lotza calculus, some fancy words like Lagrange multiplier, bla bla) 5 more days! i'm not hoping for it to come sooner because i'm totally not prepared yet.

just finished my stats paper in the morning. came back lunch and was on youtube the whole afternoon and evening watching wong fu productions! just google this name if you have no idea what i'm talking about. (will blog about them more after im done with my exams, promise)

I'M IN LOVE WITH THEIR WORK! okay, maybe their cute asian faces too =)

see that guy in the middle, he's my favourite =) he looks much better in the videos.
but they're not all about good looks, seriously.
I've been writing down a list of stuff i would love to do after exams, that's my motivation to keep me going!!

okay, going to shower and dinner soon and back to study again.. misses everyone back in malaysia!

no title for this post. hahaha

i'm supposed to write about the stuff i did during my one-week break 3 weeks ago but i'm too lazy d. so basically, i went to DFO and  Movie world!!! it was super fun, and i sat on the rides which i was afraid to ride 7 years ago when i came to aussie with my grandparents and aunt.
yeah i sat on these two rides! i was practically not sitting on the chair when the spaceshot went up!
ate some good food that week as well. i will write a food review on the food i ate next time..too lazy to upload pics =)

final exams in 3 weeks' time, macroeconomics is me crazy..time is really passing by quickly this semester.  can't wait for daddy and mummy to come! i'm thinking of home almost every other day! can't wait to be back in penang!!

Hard work paid off?

got back all my mid-semester results. they're all rather satisfactory. however, due to my kiasu-ism(or to put it in a nice way, to know where's my standard), i always compare my marks with my other coursemates. they got higher than me.

sometimes it seems unfair why a person who puts in less effort than i did got a higher mark than me..
here's one example:

she parties quite a lot, does a lot of last minute studying, seldom attends lectures, reads only the lecture notes while i did my tutorials weekly, attend lectures almost every other week, read my textbook chapters but she got a higher mark than me.

one more:

i read my textbook, make notes, attend lectures&tutorials..she did about the same thing(not the textbook part though), she kept on saying she doesn't like this subject, but ended up getting a higher mark than me.

so here's one advice that my friend gave me to make me feel better.
If you work hard, it doesn't mean you'll achieve excellent results but if you don't work hard, you'll definitely not be able to get excellent results. the point being made here is AT LEAST YOU'VE TRIED.

and i dislike comments by people like "you genius", "ahya, you don't have to be afraid of the results wanla, cos you always do so well" and when the results are good, they say "see, you guys surely get good results wan" and if results are bad, they have nothing to say already. what the heck man?! just by labelling us "genuis", all the effort we put in to achieve the results are forgotten? you don't know how much time we spent studying in order to get good results and all that we get is "ahya, u so clever, sure can wan la." i guess all these comments don't mean any harm, it's just me who is overly sensitive =).

p.s. i do use such comments at times too, but I'm trying hard not to use it because i personally think that it's rather insensitive to give such comments.

Riverfire festival

this post is way outdated.

Riverfire is one of the few big events in Brisbane. Basically it's an annual 30mins show of fireworks along the Brisbane River. went there after my first mid sem exam.
this is one of the few days in which you can see Brisbane packed with people.
all of us bought sushi rolls from the city before walking to Southbank
fireworks would only start at 7.30pm.
it was only 5pm when we reached, so took lots of pictures.
the fireworks were much nicer than the photo. thanks to my lousy camera.
everyone smiles!!!
dinner at Madtongsan.it has been so long since we last dine in the city. we were are super 'kiam siap'
this is spicy pork hot stone rice.
the first time when i had this, it was really good but somehow it wasn't that great this time.
spicy seafood soup. this is always yummy, love the silky smooth tofu in it.
that's all for now. more food pictures to come.... going clubbing later, hahaha. guess i deserve to go this time cos it's like post-exam celebration =) and  no, i don't drink. entrance is free, so i will only spend on the bus ticket which is less than $4. I'm a good girl =)

I'm gonna have 3 mid semester exams next week..GG @.@ tuesday, wednesday and saturday

tools of economic analysis filled with my 'beloved' head-spinning mathematical stuff, Gaussian elimination, blah blah

statistics B with all the Chi-square, multi regression and the Mann-whitnay, kruskal wallis, non-parametric tests

and the worst thing is i'm still watching youtube every now plus my addiction to FB is incurable now!!

Malaysia's Independence day

so tmr is Merdeka day, public holiday in Malaysia =) bet most of you will be using this day sleeping till 12noon ( i'll be doing that if i'm back home)

i'm not really a patriotic person so why am i even writing this post?! well, i have to voice out my opinion about something related to Hari Merdeka.

i have friends in Fb writing stuff like " sang Negaraku in adelaide, fell proud but sad" and "let's sing our national anthem together tmr"

And guess what they get for their replies? "why so patriotic? if you're so patriotic, you'll be studying in malaysia and not aussie." and "are you f***ing serious? scr*** malaysia."

i really don't understand why they need to make such mean comments. if you hate malaysia so much, that's your problem. Just shut your damn mouth or migrate to other country. you don't have to stop others from expressing their love for their country.

For me, malaysia has been a place where i had a memorable childhood and great high school years. nothing much to worry about. so, i really 'pandang rendah" on all those people, they make these comments without having the thought that malaysia has actually provided them with a safe and happy place to live for so many years already.

i guess people make such comments because they are associating it with the politics in malaysia.( as in they hate all the orang besar in malaysia's political world)

malaysia is really a nice country with all it's places of attractions ( the islands, highlands..) and rich culture. it would be a great place to live in if there is less corruption( which means we need a clean fresh government), more environmental-friendly( government policy and malaysian's mind set), and lower crime rate( again this depends on the government).

Malaysia is still where my HOME is......

to those who are reading this post, i hope you are not one the brainless people who makes the nasty comments.

malaysian food for you: my favourite roti canai!!

and roti tisu

my personal favourites are the ones from Goodall Food court in Penang
(opposite PCGHS high school)
the roti canai is so so yummy and the roti tisu with banana slices is SUPERB.
i will take a photo of it when i go back to penang and post it up!

my two favourite snacks

STRAWBERRIES AND WERTHER'S ORIGINAL CANDY!

it's the season for strawberries in Aussie now and Coles is selling 2 boxes for $5. it's quite cheap so i bought it for myself. i can finish the whole box in a day =)
tried taking some pics of the strawberries with my sony camera.

i love this picture for no reason.
so succulent! in fact the big fat mutated ones are the good ones. not the nice well-shaped ones
yummy!
i've been eating this back in malaysian but starting to fall in love with it like two weeks ago.
oh, my black lappie makes a nice contrasting background for this pic =)

melbourne part TWO

as we have finished walking all around the city on the 2nd day, we decided to go to the suburbs. so bought the $6.80 daily ticket and off we went to Brighton beach.

reminds me of the poem "the road not taken" from high school

Brighton Bathing boxes
the whole stretch of colourful huts

a closer look at the nice huts, there are like more than 70 huts all together
JUMP SHOTS!  you don't need a DSLR to capture these, just perfect timing
my canon digital camera(rm699, the lowest range) did it =D

I took this! so proud of myself hahaha!

had this toasted Turkish bread with ham and tasty cheese at the nearby cafe

went to St kilda after that...

Luna Park
it's theme park
we went in to have a look only, so it's FREE

there was a street in St Kilda which has quite a number of cake shops
i'm like "it looks so yummy!" but didn't try any cos we too "kiam siap" d

only had these. shared by 3, $2.50 each. i love latte art
Monarch Cakes

Mediacorp artistes, Christopher Lee and Cynthia had a filming session in that cafe before

Met up with fay's friends who are studying in Monash Uni.had dinner at a korean restaurant(so called famous among the students). so so. MadTongsan in Brisbane tastes much better, i think the one i had in Penang is better,so didn't bother to out up the pics.

the last day: took the free city circle tram to Docklands

had sushi rolls for lunch before taking the flight back.
you'll be able to see many sushi shops in every corner of melbourne
tonnes of pics on FB.
our one silly act in Melbourne: we left our hotel room key outside one night, forgotten to take it in. then as we were chatting at night, someone knocked on our door, we were so scared to open the door(my heart was pumping so FAST). the next morning, couldn't find the key. so i suddenly remembered "maybe yesterday the person was kind to remind us bout our key but we didn't open the door" went to the lobby, the key was with them! how KIND of that person. one good point of aussies. =)

BYE BYE MELBOURNE!
this metropolitan city indeed offers alot of Asian cuisines but as i have said,we were too kiam siap to eat all those yummy food. imagine, if i were to come with my family, i will definitely spend a bomb on food with my dad who loves to eat!

thinking too much?

I have been thinking alot
about friendship and things along those lines..
people i can trust.
friends whom i'm sure will be around for me when i need them
i feel like i give more than i get.
ahh, i don't know how to explain further.
sometimes i just join in cos' i don't want to be left out
why am i so prone to follow the crowd?
where is 'ME'?
guess i'm just being over sensitive,
guess i'm expecting too much from my friendships with them...

I gotta learn to be strong
learn not to depend too much on others
start to think of their goodness instead of their flaws
should i just make "to give more than to get" as my life philosophy?
but if i were to do so, then i would be taken advantage of.
AHHH!
we'll just see how things progress
it's thursday night, i'm lazing cos' i have no classes on friday!

i've been really sleepy lately, of unknown reason..i only have like a maximum of 4-5 hours( not continuously some more) of lecture/classes a day and i'm already so tired. HSC in Inti back then was much worse.(8am-4pm) and all the workload was scary. but i survived! so i should be doing better in uni right? hmmm...

the courses i'm taking for this semester are more math-based, like SERIOUSLY.

i told myself i have to study tonight but end up facebooking and msn-ing. see, never ending procrastination.

I NEED TO DISCIPLINE MYSELF!

Melbourne part ONE

I had a 4-day(5th to 8th of July) trip to melbourne with genny and fay during our semester break. As we were busy revising for exams when we booked for our flight and accommodation, we did not get the best deal offered.
Jetstar Return flight: $171 (everything included)
Hotel Enterprize: $88per night for one room

this trip to melbourne was all about sight-seeing and exploring the melbourne city. initially we thought of going to the Great Ocean Road but it was too pricey and all we see are rocks formation and scenery plus it's a 3-hr long journey to get there.

on the first day, as soon as we reached Melb, we went to check-in into our hotel. by the time we were done with the hotel and luggage, it's already 4pm. so there's nothing much for us to do. with maps in our hand, we decided to go to Chinatown( Bourke Street) which is about 25mins walk from the hotel. You can't really get lost in melb cos the roads are wide and properly planned. our first meal in melb was quite bad. warning ppl, don't go to this shop by the name "Empress of China". after dinner, we were walking around the city, taking pics. tht's the end of our first day. so boring right?

second day: we went to Queen Victoria Market in the morning. bought a slice of french vanilla, yummy but jelak. after that, we went to Lygon street(the so called lil' Italy) wanted to try the award-winning gelato Il Dolce Freddo but we were so 'sui', the shop was closed for winter break on the day we went.haihs...then the whole day we were walking around the city. we walked ALOT. went to Cook's cottage, melb museum(did not go in, just took pics(sadcase eh), Imax, Uni of melb, Flinders Street station, Federation Square, etc we explored almost every corner of the city. there were many times we just stand at one corner of a street, stoning and not knowing where to go,

my melb trip doesn't sound exciting right?! hahaha, one reason is because,we are all very 'kiam siap' ppl, we won't go to a particular place of attraction if we need to pay for the entrance fee. plus i was quite 'fan' to decide on where to go, what to eat...

i think i'll have lots of fun in melbourne if i were to go with my family as i wouldn't need to spend!! plus my dad loves to try various types of food, so i will definitely get to eat what i wish for..LOLOL... oh well, I gotta learn to go for holidays with friends.. here's some of the pics, to see more, just go facebook.
melbourne is a city with rich architecture and designs

there's graffiti everywhere in the melb

one of the 'tak sedap' dishes from "empress of china": stir fry beef with rice

outside the state library

wanton noodles:  any roadside wanton noodles from penang is tastier than this

okay, this is not bad, but still worse than dragon-i and Young heart restaurant in Penang

Queen Victoria Market

Chicken teriyaki don: DonDon, swanston street. this shop is famous for their amazingly fast service. you get your meal the minute you pay. it tasted alright.

Burek from Queen Victoria Market.this is yummy and cheap=)

There are a lot more photos but i'm not going to upload it as it will use up alot of my internet quota, yet to receive the free 10GB quota.  That's all i'm sharing for this time!

My Uni semester 2 begins!

end of sem 1, starting semester 2 on July 26th.
gaahh, new courses, new coursemates all over again
textbooks are freaking expensive here
cos' copyrighting is a serious matter here
so photocopying of books not allowed @_@

first week will be a breeze
as there will only be lectures
come to the third week,
i will be occupied with lectures, PASS, tutorials

oh well, this is the life of a student
i should just ENJOY it!
i've got my share of the one-month break
so it's time to get back to work!

 ZZZZzzzz
i have one class which starts at 8am, another at 8.30am and two more at 9am
Oh and this is considered early to us =)

the one-month long semester break

1st week: nothing much. i was getting all the necessary stuff for my Melbourne trip. went to sis's place every now and then

2nd week: off for a 4-day vacation in melbourne with Genny and Fay. trust me, it's not all fun when you're the one who had to make most of the decisions(okay maybe a lil' exaggerating) on where to go, what to eat, etc..will ramble about this trip soon together with lotza photos when i have my free 10GB internet quota.

3rd week: came back on July 8th from melbourne, flew back to HOME SWEET HOME the next night. the first place me and sis went to was our ahma and ah gong's place, we are very kuai grandchildren.=)  tried to take a nap in the evening but ended up crying in my bed. I MISS MY HOME SO MUCH. my bed, my room, my living room, my study table, my toilet, my sofa, my TV, almost everything in my house. daddy and mummy took us out for dinner every night, lunch at ahma's place everyday, these were the ordinary things we did everyday but I LOVE IT! only met up with jan, cw, ange, kp for this hols. shopped with sis in QB for 2 days consecutively so rushed for time as we're buying all the necessary stuff to bring back to Brissie. had a bad diarrhoea cos ate too much stuff that i have not been eating for 6 months. surprisingly, i didn't really have much cravings for all my fav food(this is so not me). i did not miss out on Astro. i was able to watch one whole series of Astro on demand in a week's time(by watching the beginning, not all the episodes in between, and the conclusion) the feeling of being HOME was just overwhelming. on sunday July 18th, flew back to Brissie =(. I'm glad i came home.

4th week: arrived brissie on monday morning. i was down with sore throat so i ate at sis's place. got to eat porridge =D during dinner, she cooked pork mee suah and again, out of nowhere, i was crying while eating. see la, this emo girl. jie was asking me " the mee suah tasted so bad is it?" LOL. i was touched that she took care of me when i'm sick, then luan luan think again, blah blah blah.. went out with my ex Hsc friends, wen zhen and wayne yi on wednesday for the first time, while my 3other IH buddies went to gold coast. i couldn't have the best of both worlds so i had to choose one. ate at jie's place for 3 days. on thurs, she flew to melbourne for her hospital placement =( no home cook food for a month. gg.  my emotions are quite stable for now, hopefully it will stay this way for a duration of time=) been going out with my IH people.

Highlight of the entire sem break: the 10 days in PENANG, spending time with my loved ones and being a couch potato watching astro =D

the END

2nd post-uni-exam post

yup i'm going write about my exams again...hahaha...

time flies?? yes it does but it passed by so slowly when i was having my exams..

i started my revision about two weeks before my first paper but the really REAL one started only a week before my exams during our SWOTVAC(Studying WithOut Tutorial VACation) week..i had a difficult time focusing for long hours studying in my room as i'm always feeling sleeping. i don't even need my bed to sleep, i can doze off even when i'm sitting on a chair, it's that SERIOUS! so what i did was i went down to the dining hall and study with my 3 buddies Genny, Fay & Jane. there were other poeple studying in there as well..so sleeping problem is settled but came another problem. hahaa, u know when u're with friends, u just tend to talk to them. the 3 of us could concentrate quite well except for Genny as her exams were not as early as ours..and every night at 10.30pm, we would eat toast bread!(how nice of the kitchen staff to put some bread there for us =P) however, it was pretty cold in the hall as there were no heaters...

then came my first exam>Introductory Microeconomics at 8am on a cold saturday morning! went down for breakfast at 7am and it was the first time my 'ang moh' neighbour came to sit with me! muahaha, he was having exams as well =) i was thinking "hmm...it's a good start to this morning" ahyo, but after seeing the exam paper, it was like the total opposite..so there goes my first final exam...

my next paper accounting was 6 days apart from the first one.. we tried to continue with our usual studies in the dining hall but as more and more people starts coming in, the noise level increased tremendously. so we went to study in the room in a UQ building booked by IH for us to study. the first time we went there(on a weekday) , we had a really quiet time studying. however the second time we went there(on a Saturday night), it started to feel a little creepy already as nobody was in the building. we went back after staying there for only a couple of hours, as we were walking down the stairs, we could see that the corridors were dark (it's really creepy) luckily nobody starts running out of the building cos' if one runs, the rest will surely follow. we were talking(we had to, to distract ourselves for imagining things) the whole time we're going out of the building. after reaching IH, then only we started talking bout how creepy it was. i could still feel the goose pimples on my hands whenever i talk bout it. that was the second and the last time we went there to study.

for the nights following, we just studied in our own rooms. my sleepiness did not go away but this time, i tried really hard to stay awake. i refrained myself to sit on my bed unless if i'm really going to sleep, never go near the bed after i wake up...so every night i studied till around 1.00am then wake up at bout 8.30am.

then came my emo period..i was feeling terribly homesick that i cried when jane called me through our extension numbers. thanks for comforting me, jane! but the feeling did not go away even until the next day when i video call with mummy in the night. i usually would just cry by myself and i would be fine the next morning but this time, i cried when i was video calling with my mum! all my emo-ness plus my worries for my never-improved acne condition piled up that i just couldn't stand it any more. got better the next day after talking to mummy. no doubt mom's words and advice are the best remedy for homesickness!

my accounting paper was at 5.75PM on thursday! such odd hours right? it was my worst paper among all. i did not know how to do a 22-marks question. it's that type of question where u need to know the first part in order to continue with the rest of the parts. but i tried to get marks by writing down the headings for my balance sheet and income statement. the whole paper was just CRAp! but surprisingly, i was not sad bout it..hahaha

the next two papers on alternate days, statistics and Economics of social Issues weren't that bad. i slept at 3am and woke up at 7am for my last paper, it was my last day for me to maximise my effort hence i do not mind the 4-hrs of sleep only. i could have done better for my last paper. no use regretting cos' it's OVER for now! wooohoo!!

i was telling myself "i need to sleep when i finish my exam" but i just couldn't. i was tossing on my bed but i just can't close my eyes..post-exam imsonia, i guess...

of course, with all the odd hours of sleeping, the effect was on my face yet again =( i've been trying to sleep earlier every night since my exams. okla, not very early also la, about 11.30..hehehhe

all in all, thank you mummy for the comfort when i need it the  most!

Dessert for the day fruit trifle layers of sponge cake, fruits, freshly whipped cream..it's heaven for fresh cream lovers like me =D

it felt like he has done most of the financial analysis
Thank you buddy!

time flies.
I will be taking my final exams for my first sem in UQ in 2 weeks' time.

first uni exams OVER!

wheeeeee! mid-semester exams are over for now....

how did i prepare for the exam??
same old routine.. last minute studying, burnt the midnight oil..this is a very good advice to all my friends who are taking their A2 exams, LOL! the side effect: all the annoying pimples and acne starts popping out =( yeah, never ending procrastination. my mind would just automatically stray away from what i'm supposed to study, thinking of my crushes(haha, one of it is my roommate =P) .it was so difficult to stay focus in the night as the weather was super comfy to sleep Zzzzz...and i get hungry easily in the night cos' dinner is at 5.30pm.  i had milo and arnotts biscuits EVERY NIGHT!

the worst part is my 3 out of my 4 exams were on SATURDAYS! weird right? my last two papers i.e accounting and introductory microeconomics were on the same day MAY 1st. econs paper was really really difficult.

the night before the 2 papers was really stressful. then when mummy called to wish my good luck, i was on the verge of crying already..hahaha..actually i always cry( for maybe 10 secs, hahaha) when my mum calls me. but i tried to keep a positive mind and try not to think of anything else(as in everything i have i penang) besides studying. and i have an encouraging friend here who always tell me "You can do it".

exams over now. went out for the whole day today. but i should get back to work soon, accounting project and presentation waiting for me. and maybe i should just go through that microeconomics topic that really made the exam so difficult.(it's about perfectly competitive market, about  ATC, AVC, MC, it's confusing or maybe coz i have not understand completely yet). but i don't feel like studying yet leh, okay maybe i will wait for a few more days...hahaha! procrastinating AGAIN!

resuscitating my blog

this blog is partially dead due to the ever procrastinating blogger..

*i'm supposed to write about my birthday surprise and stuff but it was so long ago already. so in short, i had a surprised bday in IH planned by my sis with the help of Genny and friends. had a yummy blueberry cheesecake as bday cake, thanks sis!

*went for clubbing for the first time! muahahaha. it was an asian dance party so the whole club was practically all asians, except for a few ang mohs. i drank a bottle of Smirnoff( only 6.5% vodka, so it's actually nothing) which costs $12, super 'hisap darah'. went at 10.30pm and came back at 5am. it was an entirely new experience and FUN! =P.
got this bruised toe due to the long hours in heels. my toe is still like this till today!

*mid-sem break was last week and what did i do? nothing very fun. just went to harbour town shopping centre in gold coast. my friends bought like 2-3 clothes and i bought NOTHING! only a $4sunglasses, so lame right?! the stuff there are cheaper compared to the ones in the city but it's still beyond my budget. $15=RM 45 leh!
went to do my 18+ card during the hols too. with this card, i won't need to bring my passposrt with me whenever i enter a alcohol premise. me bringing passport around is dangerous. guess what?! my passport fell into the toilet bowl when i went to toilet. luckily it was in IH toilet before i went clubbing, so it was clean water. LOL. ate some yummy msian cuisine for dinner!

my friend ordered this hokkien char and it's really nice!

*holidays ended. mid-sem exam season. yeah...first time having exmas after completing HSC like so many months ago! had my statistics exam today, yes on a saturday. yesterday when i was revising, the weather was so so cold that i couldn't even study properly. very sleepy also. 3 more exams to go! one on april21st and two on May1st(saturday again).

okay i'm feeling guilty for not studying d. hahaha plus i'm hungry now, maybe i will just drink smthg and go to bed. see PROCRASTINATING starts! ergh, i just can't get rid off this habit.

That's all for now.

GOOD NIGHT =)

Orientation Week at IH: Part 2

Thursday, 25th Feb:
Played Laser Skirmish. It's similar to paintball minus the bruises, we have guns and detectors worn around our head. Something new to me=) That night was Casino Night. the common room in IH is equipped with 3 gambling tables, quite lame though. but i had fun playing blackjack coz i kep on winning chips!!!

 Friday,26th Feb:
I had a free morning and afternoon coz i did not go to the water theme park.
Mini golf at night! another new game to me! we have to take a bus to the golf centre. it was fun at the beginning but started to be a lil' boring when we reach the 12th hole.

Saturday, 27th feb:
beach at Surfer's Paradise in Gold Coast. IH catered two buses. It's about 1.5 hrs from my college. I did not take much photos coz I'm scared my camera would get spoilt( by the sand). the sand is super soft and nice! all my friend went down to play in the waves except for me coz i don't really know how to swim. hehe, so i sat and enjoy the wind (like an aunty right? LOL). we had Janpanese noddle soup for lunch, the taste is exactly the same as the one i had in Osaka a few years ago.it was $10 per bowl though. came back around 5pm. Another theme party: Bath Time! yeah i wore a towel around my waist.later we played with hot water foam. we were pouring cups of foam on each other. It was FUN! I'm sure it would be even more fun if all my penang buddies were here!

Sunday, 28th feb:
Annual InterTower Competition in the afternoon. I'm staying in F Tower so i was in that group. i hate that activity coz i injured myself. first game- Dodgeball, tripped and fell on both my knees. Got a huge bruise on my left knee. later we played the chain of hand game. basically the rule is to break the chain of your rival group. our rival group sedn a big sized girl over and targeted on my side of the hand chain. it's like a bull seeing a red cloth and terus put all her weight onto our arms. gosh, obviously i fell down and almost sprained my whole arm..damn 'sui'. of course AGAIN, i cried la after coming back to my room,LOL.
the highlight for sunday was the "Becoming a Housie" event. we are divided into groups of 10 and had to complete the task given in several station. it was rainig heavily also. i came back to my room covered with mud and flour. had to throw away my clothes(old clothes fortunately) it's some sort like the games we played in Red crescent punya one-day camp. it was FUN though=)

despite all the malang-ness, it was indeed a week packed with activities and new experiences!

Orientaion Week at International House: Part 1

this post is supposed to be written way back then..hehe, i just can't find a suitable time =)

Sunday, 21st February:
My parents last day in Brisbane but i did not get to spend time with them for the O week for IH has already started. First time had lunch in IH alone. I really don't know where to sit after taking my food. Knowing that i have not much choice but to open my mouth and say hi to people, i courageously approached a Chinese guy and say "Hello". there goes all the introduction and stuff. then later i noticed there was a girl beside me so i said hi to her. Her name is Genny from the Phillipines. You people should know she's quite close to me by now through all the FB photos.

Monday, 22nd February:
First day without daddy and mummy in Aussie. Participated in the first IH activity- Speed Dating. We have to play a game to find our date. i don't really know how to describe it but i had fun coz i was being carried by several guys for several times! hehehe..i was quite scared they would injured themselves carrying me. so found a date. so the guys are supposed to pick up the girls for dinner in their respective rooms with a small gift for his date. I got 5 candies as a gift =) later that night, there was a "circus" themed party but i did not go coz i'm still not used to the environment.

Tuesday,23rd Feb
Fire alarm woke us all up at 6.50AM!! the sound of the siren was so squeeky and i practically just jumped of my bed with my heart pumping like 100XX faster. It was fire drill. Right after that, we were forced to go for a morning jog in whatever we are wearing. Some were even in their towels only! The was a very long and tiring jog! gosh, luckily i did not puke.LOL. Came back, showered and washed my hair.
At 11.ooAM, went for IH Amazing Race in the city but it's seriously not a race at all( we were taking our own sweet time completingthe task) Came back, bathed and washed my hair again. At 8.00pm, we had to run around the super hude UQ campus to take pictures of us in certain buildings. my teammates were all running from one place to another. i had a really difficult time catching up, really felt like crying there man! the activities are all sweaty wan. Came back, showered and washed my hair AGAIN for the THIRD time! Mom called and i was in tears complaining about all my running! hahaha! Never in my life have I run so much before! However i was proud of myself that i could complete all the running  instead of giving up half way through.

Wednesday. 24th feb:
It's UQ Market Day. Lots of clubs set up stalls along the corridors and a lot of freebies and food. So my friends and I had free ice creams and Bundaberg(it's an aussie brand) drinks. Genny and I chatted with handsome guy at dinner. He's a mix of Canadian and Malaysian Chinese. So I'll let you do the imagination. Nothing much in the afternoon but i went for Coffee Crawl in the night. It's basically just visits to a few famous cafes in Brisbane, drinking cafe latte, cofee, teas and italian hot chocolate. After that, we proceeded to Mt Cootha for night view of the city from the lookout platform. I had a good night!

beverages we had during Coffee Crawl. i love the latte art!

Italian Hot Chocolate: it's really thick!

At the Mt Cootha Lookout
