one more to go!

hello! just a quick update of my life in brisbane..final exams season right now. 3 down, one more to go.

last week, during the study week, was a bit of an emo week for me cos' i was down with fever, flu, terrible sore throat and cough. went to the health service but wasn't prescribed any medicine, cos to them, we mustn't take antibiotics unnecessarily. so yeah, i listened to their advice and suffered that painful throat for five days (i was hoping it would get better every morning i wake up but it never did) so took the antibiotics i brought from malaysia, after 2 pills, my throat got better. gosh, should have taken it much early instead of swallowing those painkillers ( a total of more than 16! ) been coughing till my ribs hurt a few days ago but it's definitely going away soon.

luckily, i have my sis here, so i went to her place and cook fish porridge for 3 meals. IH food is totally not suitable for a sick person. i think now i can cook a very decent bowl of fish porridge, probably i would rate it 7/10=) a big thank you to all my friends who were there for me last week, i was super down last week.. and a big love to my mum who have been calling me almost every other day last week.

one more paper to go this coming thursday, 'tools of economic analysis", the tools are all maths (lotza calculus, some fancy words like Lagrange multiplier, bla bla) 5 more days! i'm not hoping for it to come sooner because i'm totally not prepared yet.

just finished my stats paper in the morning. came back lunch and was on youtube the whole afternoon and evening watching wong fu productions! just google this name if you have no idea what i'm talking about. (will blog about them more after im done with my exams, promise)

I'M IN LOVE WITH THEIR WORK! okay, maybe their cute asian faces too =)

see that guy in the middle, he's my favourite =) he looks much better in the videos.
but they're not all about good looks, seriously.
I've been writing down a list of stuff i would love to do after exams, that's my motivation to keep me going!!

okay, going to shower and dinner soon and back to study again.. misses everyone back in malaysia!

Hard work paid off?

got back all my mid-semester results. they're all rather satisfactory. however, due to my kiasu-ism(or to put it in a nice way, to know where's my standard), i always compare my marks with my other coursemates. they got higher than me.

sometimes it seems unfair why a person who puts in less effort than i did got a higher mark than me..
here's one example:

she parties quite a lot, does a lot of last minute studying, seldom attends lectures, reads only the lecture notes while i did my tutorials weekly, attend lectures almost every other week, read my textbook chapters but she got a higher mark than me.

one more:

i read my textbook, make notes, attend lectures&tutorials..she did about the same thing(not the textbook part though), she kept on saying she doesn't like this subject, but ended up getting a higher mark than me.

so here's one advice that my friend gave me to make me feel better.
If you work hard, it doesn't mean you'll achieve excellent results but if you don't work hard, you'll definitely not be able to get excellent results. the point being made here is AT LEAST YOU'VE TRIED.

and i dislike comments by people like "you genius", "ahya, you don't have to be afraid of the results wanla, cos you always do so well" and when the results are good, they say "see, you guys surely get good results wan" and if results are bad, they have nothing to say already. what the heck man?! just by labelling us "genuis", all the effort we put in to achieve the results are forgotten? you don't know how much time we spent studying in order to get good results and all that we get is "ahya, u so clever, sure can wan la." i guess all these comments don't mean any harm, it's just me who is overly sensitive =).

p.s. i do use such comments at times too, but I'm trying hard not to use it because i personally think that it's rather insensitive to give such comments.

2nd post-uni-exam post

yup i'm going write about my exams again...hahaha...

time flies?? yes it does but it passed by so slowly when i was having my exams..

i started my revision about two weeks before my first paper but the really REAL one started only a week before my exams during our SWOTVAC(Studying WithOut Tutorial VACation) week..i had a difficult time focusing for long hours studying in my room as i'm always feeling sleeping. i don't even need my bed to sleep, i can doze off even when i'm sitting on a chair, it's that SERIOUS! so what i did was i went down to the dining hall and study with my 3 buddies Genny, Fay & Jane. there were other poeple studying in there as well..so sleeping problem is settled but came another problem. hahaa, u know when u're with friends, u just tend to talk to them. the 3 of us could concentrate quite well except for Genny as her exams were not as early as ours..and every night at 10.30pm, we would eat toast bread!(how nice of the kitchen staff to put some bread there for us =P) however, it was pretty cold in the hall as there were no heaters...

then came my first exam>Introductory Microeconomics at 8am on a cold saturday morning! went down for breakfast at 7am and it was the first time my 'ang moh' neighbour came to sit with me! muahaha, he was having exams as well =) i was thinking "hmm...it's a good start to this morning" ahyo, but after seeing the exam paper, it was like the total opposite..so there goes my first final exam...

my next paper accounting was 6 days apart from the first one.. we tried to continue with our usual studies in the dining hall but as more and more people starts coming in, the noise level increased tremendously. so we went to study in the room in a UQ building booked by IH for us to study. the first time we went there(on a weekday) , we had a really quiet time studying. however the second time we went there(on a Saturday night), it started to feel a little creepy already as nobody was in the building. we went back after staying there for only a couple of hours, as we were walking down the stairs, we could see that the corridors were dark (it's really creepy) luckily nobody starts running out of the building cos' if one runs, the rest will surely follow. we were talking(we had to, to distract ourselves for imagining things) the whole time we're going out of the building. after reaching IH, then only we started talking bout how creepy it was. i could still feel the goose pimples on my hands whenever i talk bout it. that was the second and the last time we went there to study.

for the nights following, we just studied in our own rooms. my sleepiness did not go away but this time, i tried really hard to stay awake. i refrained myself to sit on my bed unless if i'm really going to sleep, never go near the bed after i wake up...so every night i studied till around 1.00am then wake up at bout 8.30am.

then came my emo period..i was feeling terribly homesick that i cried when jane called me through our extension numbers. thanks for comforting me, jane! but the feeling did not go away even until the next day when i video call with mummy in the night. i usually would just cry by myself and i would be fine the next morning but this time, i cried when i was video calling with my mum! all my emo-ness plus my worries for my never-improved acne condition piled up that i just couldn't stand it any more. got better the next day after talking to mummy. no doubt mom's words and advice are the best remedy for homesickness!

my accounting paper was at 5.75PM on thursday! such odd hours right? it was my worst paper among all. i did not know how to do a 22-marks question. it's that type of question where u need to know the first part in order to continue with the rest of the parts. but i tried to get marks by writing down the headings for my balance sheet and income statement. the whole paper was just CRAp! but surprisingly, i was not sad bout it..hahaha

the next two papers on alternate days, statistics and Economics of social Issues weren't that bad. i slept at 3am and woke up at 7am for my last paper, it was my last day for me to maximise my effort hence i do not mind the 4-hrs of sleep only. i could have done better for my last paper. no use regretting cos' it's OVER for now! wooohoo!!

i was telling myself "i need to sleep when i finish my exam" but i just couldn't. i was tossing on my bed but i just can't close my eyes..post-exam imsonia, i guess...

of course, with all the odd hours of sleeping, the effect was on my face yet again =( i've been trying to sleep earlier every night since my exams. okla, not very early also la, about 11.30..hehehhe

all in all, thank you mummy for the comfort when i need it the  most!

Dessert for the day fruit trifle layers of sponge cake, fruits, freshly whipped cream..it's heaven for fresh cream lovers like me =D

dec 15, 16 or 17?

my mind was all filled with worries
this whole morning
thinking that  "HSC results coming out tmr!"
posted on fb: "i don't want to go to INTI tmr"
had lunch and onlined again
took a glance at the calendar
"eh, tmr is only 15thdec..."
" results will be out on wednesday, not tomorrow la"
suddenly my friend asked
"hey michelle, do we need to go to college tml?"
i replied
no no, i made a mistake
he said
" i was shocked when i saw your post"
finally we both agreed that we only need to go back to college on Thursday dec 17th

see, this is what happened when your mind is so dense with all the worries and negative thoughts. gosh, i worried for nothing today when i'm only supposed to get scared tomorrow night. Of all days, why do we get to know our results on dec 16th..it's my mum's birthday! if i obtained good results, then it will be good lar..but what if it's the opposite? maybe i should just check my results on the 17th of dec...
